Ok, I know I said I wanted this blog to be about more than just politics and religion. Oh well. The way I see it, and the way Barbara Kingsolver so eloquently explains the problem with politics in "The Poisonwood Bible" (I think page 286) is this:
When one candidate gets 50 votes, and the other gets 49, how can it be that one is declared the complete winner and the other the complete loser? Now half of your people are unhappy, and trouble is sure to come. According to BK, the Congolese people work hard to make sure everyone is happy. Chiefs work hard to understand what the people want. Now why does that sound like a "novel" idea?
